Four Records That Survived Zack Hample's Assault on the Record Books

Zack Hample visited all 30 Major League ballparks this season, and his routine was pretty much the same wherever he went: 1) Take some cool photos of the stadium, 2) Meet the local ballhawks, pose for pictures with them, and sign their copies of The Baseball, and 3) Break the local record for baseballs snagged in a single game.

To be completely accurate though, I need to point out that #3 wasn't accomplished at every stadium. A handful of stadium records, four to be exact, successfully withstood Hample's assault on the record books. Here they are, in no particular order:

  • Dodger Stadium - Devin Trone (devot) -- 12 balls, May 3, 2011
  • Minute Maid Park - Donny Haltom (dhaltom) -- 13 balls, September 11, 2009
  • Sun Life Stadium - Rick Gold (jqfc) -- 15 balls, September 19, 2011
  • PNC Park - Nick Pelescak (nicholasPNC) -- 16 balls, May 19, 2010

And that's it. Just four stadium records are not currently held by Hample. There are, however, four other stadiums at which Hample is tied for the record:

  • Angel Stadium -- 11 balls, Hample on Sept 5, 2011 and Rob McCoy (bbshagger) on July 1, 2011
  • AT&T Park -- 11 balls, Hample on June 19, 2002 and Andrew Bunnell (andrewb) on April 13, 2010
  • Safeco Field -- 13 balls, Hample on June 14, 2011 and Tom Mikita (f3Athletic) on September 26, 2011
  • Yankee Stadium -- 14 balls, Hample on April 14, 2011 and Ben Schragger (schrag5) on June 7, 2011

Hample has indeed set the bar high at virtually every stadium in the league, and ballhawks everywhere will be gunning for his records in 2012.
