by Alan Schuster, February 13, 2015
For the second time in his illustrious ballhawking career, Dan Nelson from Corpus Christi, Texas was voted Minor League Ballhawk of the Year. Nelson tallied 228 balls over 83 games this season to bring his website-leading lifetime total up to an incredible 1,396 balls. A regular ballhawk at Whataburger Field, Nelson snagged his share of balls during BP but typically saved his best performances for during the game. He finished the year leading all Minor League ballhawks in both Game Balls (66) and Game Home Runs (32). For his career Nelson has now snagged 172 game home run balls. Nelson received 25 total points in the vote tally including seven first place votes. Following behind him were last year's winner Rick Sporcic (18 points), Alex Kopp (17 points), and Fred Spencer (15 points). Spencer led the website in total balls this year with 318.
