Pelescak Extends Streak to 100 Straight Games
Pittsburgh Ballhawk Snags Nine Balls on Tuesday, Making it 100 Straight Games With a Ball
by Alan Schuster, May 26, 2011
Pelescak shows off four commemorative balls that he snagged on Tuesday. The last time Nick Pelescak attended a Major League game and came home empty-handed was on October 3, 2009. Since then, he's compiled a consecutive games streak that has spanned the tail end of 2009, all of 2010, and the first two months of 2011, remaining alive to this day. Tuesday night in Pittsburgh the streak reached 100, making him one of only a handful of ballhawks to accomplish a triple-digit streak. The 100 game streak became official even before Pelescak entered the stadium. He was standing on the riverwalk along the Allegheny River with a group of ballhawks when he tracked a ball sailing over the PNC bleachers. With serveral ballhawks going after it he knew he would have to make a great play on it, so he dove headfirst into the weeds and made an amazing snag. "This was easily the best play I have ever made out on the riverwalk," he wrote on his blog. Pelescak ended up having a great day of ballhawking, snagging nine balls including an in-game toss=up from Garrett Jones. He now has snagged 117 balls this year, and 868 for his career.
